As a result of the superb fund raising effort of the Dorset Mark Master Masons, the Provincial Grand Master, RW Bro Michael James Whelan JP, accompanied by many Mark Master Masons of the Province of Dorset and family members, attended Dorset County Hospital, on Saturday 11th May 2019, to hand over a new BMW Blood Bike to the Yeovil Freewheelers Emergency Volunteer Service.

Presentation of a new Blood Bike In total £12,000 was donated to the Yeovil Freewheelers EVS, the extra money going towards the running costs for the first year.

It was a splendid occasion with good support from the Brethren, Blood Bike riders and Hospital staff. The weather was wonderful, and Yeovil Freewheelers were most grateful for the magnificent effort by the Dorset Mark Masons in raising the money in such a relatively short time - R.W. Bro. Mike
The Provincial Grand Master would personally like to thank all the Mark Members of Dorset, especially the Provincial Grand Charity Steward, W.Bro Richard Paisley, AGIG, and W.Bro. Reg Bugler, PGSD, who have done a great deal of the work, and he hopes you will continue your support to this most worthwhile cause, to enable us to supply a second bike in due time.

Yeovil Freewheelers EVS provides a unique out-of-hours free courier service between different hospitals and patients in their homes across the whole of South Somerset and now throughout Dorset. Founded in 1978, Yeovil Freewheelers are the oldest operational blood bike group in the country.

The new bike will be garaged at Dorset County Hospital and used to carry urgently needed medical items such as blood, biological samples, medical notes, x-rays and medicines, saving the NHS many thousands of pounds per year.

After the presentation we were informed that the bike went into immediate service, being called upon to make four deliveries of various items that afternoon/evening.

Congratulations and thanks to all!

Yours sincerely and fraternally

WBro. R W Parkes
Provincial Grand Secretary
